UN Women- USNC, LA chapter presented its 4th Annual Assembly 'Belonging and Displacement: Uniting Heads, Hearts, and Hands' in observance of .World Refugee .month
This event was featured the global work of United Nations Women while honored local efforts in Los Angeles. More than 250 people attended the summit at a historic place; The Santa Monica Bay Woman's Club. The event was daylong and consisted of networking, plenary sessions and a panel discussion. The assembly examined the realities of displacement and share stories, experiences, innovative tools and approaches for greater belonging

















Soraya fallah, an American /Kurdish scholar who is UNWomen-USNC,LA chapter ambassador and one of the founding member played a role as a panelist and created a bridge between Kurdish and Iranian communities with this assembly. She invited Kurdish community members, artists, scholars, and media to actively participate in this summit. Along with Alisa Orduña, Senior Advisor on Homelessness for the City of Santa Monica, Set Hernandez Rongkilyo, an undocumented immigrant filmmaker and community organizer, Cynthia Buiza is the Executive Director of the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) , and Chanel Smith Director, DV Policy and Vulnerable Populations to the LA Mayor's Office of Public Safety. VOKRadio reporter asked Ms. Chanel about the issue of immittance and the level of thier understanding about Kurdish and Iranian community. She replied positively, however avoided very direct commentary. During the panel discussion Dr. Fallah talked about inclusivity, avoid otherism/otherness/othering, and emphasized on refugees and immigrants with disabilities.
In an interview with Dr. Fallah, she mentioned her thankful to entire community she belongs to, many Kurdish individual and group, media, Iranian media, individuals and organizations helped to raise the voice of immigrants in California. 
This kinds of event brings many benefits to the community and to UN Women's work to Educate world leaders on gender equality issues and solutions, Influence policy, global standards, and norms to achieve gender equality, and Fund programs to end gender violence, achieve economic empowerment for women and increase women's participation in peace, security, and governance efforts in their communities and around the world.
Attendees enjoyed networking in this event, a raffle, silent auction, a delicious buffet
lunch, and fabulous arts were presented.
