The following letter has been sent to Amnesty international and Human Rights Watch urging them to take action regarding Ehsan Fattahian execution sentence
November 8, 2009
In regards to: Urgent Action Request
Subject: Political Prisoner in Danger of
Execution
First and foremost, thank you for your passionate and
tireless work for human rights in Iran. Your commitment is critical and appreciated.
I am writing to let you know about yet another urgent case
in dire need of attention and immediate action.
Ehsan (Esma'il)
Fattahian (also spelled
Fattahiyan), a male political activist of the Kurdish minority in
Iran, held at Sanandaj central prison, is in danger of execution on Wednesday
November 11, 2009. A letter was
written by the Iran Judiciary to the Court in Sanandaj confirming the date of
Mr. Fattahian's execution, and his attorney has also been summoned to watch the
execution take place on this date. As of Sunday morning of November 8, 2009,
despite reported illness, Mr. Fattahian is on a hunger strike in protest of the
court's decision. Other political prisoners in Sanandaj prison are also on
hunger strike for the fear that they might face a similar sentence.
It is important to note that Mr. Ehsan Fattahian has been
imprisonment for the past 18 months, held in solitary confinement, and
subjected to severe torture. Previously the court had decided to incarcerate
him for 10 years, but upon appeal, the death sentence has been imposed. (For
more information regarding Ehsan please look at the following links -http://www.amnesty.org --

)
Mr. Ehsan Fattahian is not the only activist in this
condition. Reportedly, 16 other political activists from the Kurdish minority
have received the execution sentence without a set date in various prisons in
Iran. According to several Kurdish human rights websites, Habib Ollah Latifi
and Shirko Ma'rofi are also in imminent danger of execution within the next
week or so.
We urge Human Rights Watch and all human right groups around
the world to do what is in their power to put pressure on the Islamic Republic
of Iran to stop the execution of Mr. Ehsan Fattahian. We also urge you to
immediately speak up against the death sentences of other activists in danger
of execution in Iran, especially the 16 political activists from the Kurdish
minority group who are currently in imminent danger of losing their lives.
Respectfully
