The Kurdish National Congress of North America will gather for its annual conference at San Diego University in San Diego, California. This will be KNC-NA's 22nd annual conference.
Mr. Azad Moradian, Psychotherapist and Behavior Consultant in the Los Angeles County, who sits on the executive board of KNC-NA, discussed the organizations' history, mission, vision, and overall philosophy in an interview with VOA in Kurdish. A brief mention of KNC-NA's accomplishments were given, as well as the goals for the future.
This organization was
established in 1988 by a group of Kurdish intellectuals with a long
history of activism and leadership. The founders came together to
establish this organization soon after the chemical bombings of Halabja
and surrounding areas by Iraqi forces. Since then KNC-NA has become a
Non-for-Profit, member-driven organization representing Kurds across
all regions of Middle East and diasporas .
Mr. Azad Moradian believes that KNC-NA has been
successful in bringing the Kurdish issue to the attention of the
dominant political arena in North America and establishing Kurds in
diasporas as a recognizable minority. He also mentioned that today the
region of Middle East is in a transformative and transitional phase.
Kurds are geopolitically positioned within these important transitions
and will be increasingly significant members of the international
community. KNC-NA will have a more crucial role in North America going
forward.
