Iranian kurds at risk of imminent execution

The death sentence s against Loghman Moradi and Zaniar Moradi, two members of Iran’s Kurdish minority have been up held by the Supreme Court . They could now be executed at any time.

Zaniar (or Zanyar) Moradi and Loghman (or Loqman) Moradi were sentenced to public hanging on 22 December 2010 by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. They have been convicted of “enmity against God” (moharebeh) and “corruption on earth” for allegedly murdering the son of a senior cleric in Marivan, Kordestan province, north-eastern Iran, on 4 July 2009. They have also been convicted of participating in armed activities with Komala, a Kurdish opposition group. The trial reportedly lasted 20 minutes but the two men appealed the sentences. A 12 October 2011report stated that the Supreme Court had upheld the verdicts. According to information, Loghman and Zaniar Moradi have been verbally notified of the Supreme Court’s decision. Amnesty International is investigating reports suggesting that Zaniar Moradi was 17 at the time of his arrest.

خلاصه:

دبیر کل سازمان ملل مفتخر است که گزارش وضعیت حقوق بشر در ایران را که از سوی گزارشگر ویژه حقوق بشر، احمدشهید، بر طبق قطعنامه مصوب شورای حقوق بشر ۱۶/۹ تهیه شده است را به اعضای مجمع عمومی ارائه کند.

گزارشگر ویژه در قبال مسوولیتهای خود به صورت رسمی از ۱۰ مرداد ماه ۱۳۹۰ آغاز به کار کرد. به دنبال این انتصاب دیرهنگام در آن زمان گزارشگر ویژه به دبیر کل اعلام کرد که وی در موقعیت ارائه گزارشی جامع نیست اما تمرکز گزارش وی بر متدولوژی و روش کار وطبقه بندی جدیدترین روندهای وضعیت حقوق بشر در جمهوری اسلامی خواهد بود و بر نیاز به شفافیت و همکاری بیشتر جمهوری اسلامی تاکید خواهد کرد.

This video is amazing in the sense that it clearly demonstrates the shocking symmetry and similarities between movements across the world. It is stunning and it really brings out the hypocrisy of our "leaders." It also makes me happy to see people getting involved and voicing their discontent while demanding accountability. I appreciate that this video attempts to show the common humanity of people around the world. It shows that all of us, regardless of our birth place, will rise when discontent.

Dr. Alireza Azizi has been active in the field of human rights for the past thirty years and has served on the boards of many international organizations including Amnesty International. Most recently he has been working with the Society for Human Rights in Iran Southern California. In addition to being a human rights lecturer, Dr. Azizi holds a PhD in Physics from UCLA and works at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena. His insights should provide an enlightening and engaging opportunity to exchange ideas.
