Human Rights and US-Iran Relations
Sunday May 10, 2009 at 12.00-3.00 pm
5500 Irvine Center Dr, Irvine Valley College, Room B209, Irvine, CA 92618
To honor the Mothers Day,
the seminar is dedicated to mothers for a just, peaceful, and
democratic motherland. The event is organized by Art-in-Mind. Guest
speakers include Dr. Kajal Rahmani, Dr. Fereshteh Bethel, and Dr.
Ardeshir Anoshiravani.
Dr. Rahmani
is a professor of anthropology, a fellow at Harvard University, an
expert in ethno-linguistic studies in Mesopotamia, and the director of
Kurdistan Justice and Peace Academy. She will talk about human rights, gender, and ethnicity.
Dr. Bethel
is a faculty at California State University, Fullerton. She has worked
as a Clinical Psychologist and as an educator around the world on
Baha'i Faith, persecutions, and progression in spiritual teachings. She
will talk about human rights of Baha'is and other minorities.
Dr. Anoshiravani
is a physician, a psychiatrist, and an addictionalogist. He has written
extensively about psychology of the Gathas, the divine songs of
Zarathushtra, and is a lecturer in the field of ancient Persian culture
and history. Dr. Anoshiravani will talk about women's rights in the Zoroastrian Era.
Members
of other minorities in Iran such as Yaresan, Jewish, Assyrian,
Caldanian, and Armenian, as well as political groups such as
monarchists, nationalist minorities, socialists, liberals, etc. have
been invited to participate in this event. Even Mr. Reza Pahlavi, the
son of former King of Iran who was giving a lecture in Irvine, was
approached to join us and share his views with the public about the
human rights violations in Iran. Probably due to scheduling, taboos,
excessive fear from the Iranian government, and complexity of the
Iranian society speakers of these groups can not officially participate
in such seminars yet. However, they are welcome to join us despite
their limitations.
Since
the contribution of all minorities including believers and
non-believers to the American Democracy is now valued in Washington, we
decided not to exclude an important minority, the doubters. Although
many minorities are not present in this short seminar, the agnostics or
doubters would be represented by Art-in-Mind. With Affection, Reason,
and Tolerance in Mind, Dr. Artin, will show in a
satire that those who take away the rights of others are classic
pirates. He will argue why democracy as the government of the people,
by the people, for the people, should not let the reign of the pirates, by the pirates, for the pirates steal other people's human rights.
On
the same day a commercial event is held at UCLA by financially
successful immigrants at 4 pm. To accommodate the need of those who
plan to attend both events as well as people who need time to spend
with their mothers, we start the Human Rights event at noon and end it
by 3 pm. The event is a free of charge public service. Parking at IVC lots 8 and 9 is also free. For questions please contact:
